If you're prepared for zombies, you're prepared for anything!

What to do?

I woke up early this morning 4:45 and couldn't go back to sleep... I guess I shouldn't have gone to bed at 12:45 last night.  Before I go any further, I should preface that I get up before 6:00 am every day and many times I'm up at 5:00 so 4:45 really isn't that big of deal.  Anyway, idea's about my novel "The Enraged" and how to get my name out there were flowing through my mind and I knew I had to get up and get to work.  Since I have completed my novel, I am now reading the book, "The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published" by Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry.  I'm only about 25% through the book but they definitely know what they are talking about. I have found the book to be informative and worth the money, I'd recommend it to anyone who is working on a novel.  My thought when I got up this morning is that maybe I should write a bunch of short stories about different characters in my novel... you know, "The Untold Stories of The Enraged".  Who knows what I'll really do, I guess I'll get back to reading, sorry for the boring post!

Norman Reedus aka Daryl Dixon of The Walking Dead gets ZOMBIE pranked

I saw this video a few months back and had to post it.  This awesome guy, Nick Santonastasso gets made up to look like a zombie and gives The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus aka Daryl Dixon quite a scare.  Fellow Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln aka Rick Grimes is in on the prank... this is a must watch.  Thanks for the good laugh Nick Santonastasso!

"The Enraged" - Premise for my Zombie Apocalypse Novel

Shay Donovan - "The Enraged"

Premise:

I've never even killed a spider.  I abhor violence in any form and had never fired a gun, but then I found myself surrounded by death.  My world… my life became kill or be killed and I became a killer!”

CDC - Zombie Preparedness

I came across this the other day and thought I should pass it on.  One of my personal hobbies is emergency preparedness.  I want to make sure that when the Stuff Hits the Fan that I have the right supplies.  Who wouldn't?  Anyway, go to www.emergency.cdc.gov to check it out and see if you have the right items to survive an out break.

What's happening in Zombie Land?

I just heard the rumor that Glen Rhee (Steven Yeun) from "The Walking Dead" is going to die.  I hope there's no truth to this because Glen Rhee truly one of the few Good Guys from the show.  Alanna Masterson tweeted"when someone great is gone." during filming which seemed to validate the rumor.  Either way, someone major from "The Walking Dead" is gone.  Let's just ray it's not Glen Rhee... at least we know it's not Daryl Dixon.  That would really suck and then no one would watch the show any more.

In the world of "The Enraged" - (My Zombie World)
I completed the novel about six months ago. I went through the book with an editor and removed a bunch of unnecessary wording to help the story move faster. I also added a new chapter about JT Donovan (Shay's husband) and his buddy Porter.  It's short but necessary to the flow of the novel. At this stage I'm ready to look for a book agent, but not quite sure what to do. I'm still strongly considering self publishing, but I understand that's a much longer road.  It's hard, when you know you have a GREAT Story, to give up so much of your profits to a publisher, But it's the fastest route and will most likely lead to a movie deal much quicker which is my ultimate goal.  Thanks for reading.

Zombies Zombies Zombies!!!

Seems like you can't go a day with out hearing something about zombies.  Zombies are taking over the world, at least on print and on screen.  Seems like everyone is writing about zombies or trying to make a movie/TV show about them.  So, if you love to read about zombies like me, how do you choose a book or a movie?  I know I've recently read a few bummers and I was even let down by Brad Pitt's zombie movie World War Z.  I'm not saying the movie sucked, it didn't.  It just didn't do it for me.  The book was much better.
I love zombies! As a matter of fact I love zombies more than they love to eat humans.  And, I've thought a lot about why so many zombie movies/books are missing the mark.  I think the reason is simple.  The movies/books are more about zombies than people.  That's why The Walking Dead is so big.  There are compelling stories about HUMANS, not zombies, their relationships and how they are surviving!  Relationships are formed and change.  The Walking Dead makes you feel like... this is how it would really be if zombies came.
I am a big fan of The Walking Dead, but to me it's still missing a key ingredient.  The hero's in many cases make the wrong choices.  I understand that hero's aren't perfect and they shouldn't be, but when it comes to the big decisions, like another human's life they shouldn't miss the mark.  For instance, in The Walking Dead, when Rick Grimes drives past the hitch hiker who is clearly all alone with out picking him up.  It didn't sit well with me.  When they drove back and the hitchhiker had obviously been killed by zombies Rick stopped for his back pack.  In my eye's Rick Grimes missed a huge opportunity to be a HERO, you know a GOOD GUY with a good heart who wants to help people.  The writers can do what ever they want and The Walking Dead is a HUGE success so maybe I should shut up... or maybe I should write my own story... oh, I DID!
I've been working on my own novel for over 3 years now, actually since before I even heard of The Walking Dead. It's hard to believe how much work goes into these things, but I believe I have a compelling story and it's different from anything else zombie related that I've read or watched and my test readers have LOVED my novel so far.  My book is called "THE ENRAGED" and I am less than a year from publishing.  My story is about a 29 year old woman, Shay Donovan, who is a mother of 3 little girls.  Shay is separated from her family during an outbreak.  The story bounces back an forth between Shay and her husband, JT, who is with the 3 girls.  My story is filled with moments that will scare you, make you laugh and make you cry.  The question is, will Shay find her family before it's too late?  I don't want to spoil the book in any way, but I wouldn't bet on it.  There are other things the separate my novel, "The Enraged" from other zombie literature and I'll tell you more about it in future posts.
